Most Asked: What do I wear?
Sunscreen! Preferably with zinc. The Florida sun is no joke.
Moisture wicking clothes
Water shoes suggested. Amazon has a lot of fun colors and designs. You can buy some affordable ones here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F8QRXF5/ref=twister_B09LSSM712?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Flip flops are not recommended. While they are fun and dry quickly, flip flops are often slippery and can impede balance when entering and exiting the kayak. You may go barefoot when pedaling or paddling so no need for shoes after you get on!
What to bring:
Water
Hat
Sunglasses
Small Towel for sweat and/or splashes
Snacks if you prefer
More sunscreen
Smile!
You may want to bring a cell phone holder. We are not responsible for lost items. While your phone may be waterproof, it is not sink-proof.
Parking:
Please park along Stringfellow Road in front of the chain link fence just before reaching Pine Island Bait & Tackle. (We like to leave the parking lot open for the fisherman to get bait and supplies. They also need room to turn their trailers around.) The bait shop sells ice and souvenirs as well as bug spray & clothing. https://www.facebook.com/pineislandbaitandtackle/ The General Store across the street has snacks, drinks, beer & wine. If you can, please help support our islanders recovering from Hurricane Ian.
Physical skill level necessary:
While kayaking is relatively easy, getting on and off the kayak is the most difficult part. Ability to bend at the knees and stand from a sitting position with balance is required. Guests should be able to get in and out of the kayak with little to no assistance.
Pedal kayaking can aggravate knees and is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE WITH KNEE PROBLEMS OR RECENT KNEE REPLACEMENT.
Paddle kayaking does require some upper body strength as well as use of hands & shoulders. These requirements should be taken into consideration when choosing a kayak. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE WITH SHOULDER PROBLEMS OR RECENT SHOULDER REPLACEMENT.
